Description:
Mobile phone tools is a program you can use to synchronize your phone with. You can update and backup your phone book as well as email/SMS. With Motorola V300 and up you can add ring tones and wallpapers or download pictures you have taken by drag and drop method. Some people might have problems with this not being able to detect the phone, make sure you do not have any sounds playing from your computer while using Mobile Phone Tools. Also if you are running SP2 firewall, it has been noted that sometimes it will block the Motorola USB modem, since obviously it acts as a modem in the device manager, make sure you set the persmission to allow access for that device. If all else fails. You made sure that you have installed the drivers, have the latest version of Mobile Phone tools, and have tried reinstalling the drivers and your phone is still not connecting with Mobile Phone Tools, then the only sure fix for this is to do a Master Clear on the phone. You will find it in the Initial Settings menu and it will ask for a password, unless you changed the password, its going to be "000000" (6 zero's) This will delete your phonebook and pictures you've taken on the phone and restore most settings back to default. BUT! if you have bluetooth on your phone, you will not have this problem, just go out and buy a BT adapter if your PC does not have a BT device (around $40) This is only for transfering files, if you want to flash and edit seems, you must have the data cable. The best place to buy a data cable is on ebay, they're usually under a dollar, some come with CD's and some don't. The ones that come with CD's are usually the ones that need the drivers to be installed before you plug in the data cable, otherwise, you'll find the drivers here. Other stores like Radio Shack, if they have it, will charge over $20 for a data cable and then later on (if they don't tell you) will force you to buy a CD for the drivers which you can not download, you have to buy it seperately.
p2k Manager allows you to further customize your phone. This is a use at your own risk program since you can delete the wrong file and screw up your phone, and will have to flash it to fix it. i just use it to delete those annoying images that come installed with the phone.. thats pretty easy to do since they are titled the same as they appear in your phone.
p2k drivers.. do i need to explain?
Miscelanious Mods:
Here i'll be listing some random mods that can be done to motorola phones. They may not work for all motorola phones, but they will most likely work with most V series phones.
Getting More than 5 - 8 seconds of video recording: props V3 PHONE.
Phones like V330, 360, 551, V3 or any V series motorola that has video enabled, this will work.
First see the steps below and see if those menus exist, if they don't, then follow steps A and B first.
1. Go to Menu -- > Messages --> Menu --> Message Setup (Inbox Setup) --> MMS Message Setup --> Size Limit --> None. Make sure it is set to None.
2. Navigate to Menu --> Multimedia --> Videos --> Menu --> Videos Setup --> Video Length --> MMS. Select MMS.
If you can't find either of those menu settings, they need to be enabled in your seem 0032_0001.
A. Download seem "0032_0001" using p2kman. Make a copy so that you have a back up.
Next, using XVI, open the seem and go to offset "6E" (you'll know by looking at the bottem left corner of XVI) and then select tools from the menu and select "Bit Manipulation" check mark "bit 3".
This enables the video length menu (some cingular phones will have this option already enabled)
B. Next go to offset "7F" witch is not too far from 6E... Tools --> Bit Manipulation --> Check mark "bit 0".
C. Now save the file and exit XVI. using p2kman, upload the seem you edited and restart your phone.
-------------------- New Settings for V360
1. download seem "0032_0001" Make a backup copy. Using XVI, open the seem and locate offset "6E".. Under bit manipulation check "bit 3".. Save.
2. download seem "004e_0001" Make a backup copy. Using XVI, open the seem and locate offset 412.. Change the default value to the number "28".. Save.
3. Upload both seems to the phone and click the "restart" button.
Converting Videos:
Things You Need: Super Converting program - or this link
How To Do It: After installing the program change the settings.

2. h236 in 'Output Video Codec'
3. amr_nb in 'Output Audio Codec'
--Video--
4. 176 x 144 in 'Video Scale Size'
5. 11:9 in Aspect
6. 15 in Frame/Sec
7. 85 in Bitrate
8. check mark "High Quality"
--Audio--
9. 8000 in Sampling Freq
10. 1 in Channels

Then drag your video in and click "encode". Once it is done, simply take the video and transfer it to your phone.
Chaning outer LCD picture:
on the newer phones like the V3 and V635 the outer LCD screen is not the traditional blue pixelated screen we all use p2ktools to change. It is now a .gif file that you can edit and upload to change it.
It is a file called "cl.gif" which is found under "/system" download it and use whatever image editing program to create your own thing. then upload the file (re-writing the old one) and reset your phone.
Ufortunately this does not work for V635, unless there is another way, email me and i'll put it.
Wallpapers:
Some of these i've made by simply resizing existing pictures, and the others i've collected from HowardForums.com.
If you want to make your own mobile wallpapers, just resize the picture to 176x200. Best results if you use Photoshop/imageready.
i've created a gallery for 500+ wallpapers i've collected.. click here to browse through them.
Ringtones: Just right click and save target as.
If you want to make your own ringtones:
With the program Audicity you can turn any mp3 file into an MP3 ringtone. Just open an MP3 file, edit it to your likings and export as MP3 then use Mobile Phone Tools to upload your new ringtone.
Make sure that you keep your MP3 ringtone filename short and also the file itself, otherwise the more space you take up on the phone, the slower your phone will be. With LAME Encoder you can adjust the bit rate of your MP3 ringtone, you really don't need it to be 128bit, i usually make my ringtones between 48 - 64 bits and it still sounds good on my phone.
To adjust the bit rate (you only have to do this once) Open Audacity, then click on 'File' --> 'Prefrences' --> 'File Format' (the tab). On the bottom is the Mp3 Export Setup; Click on "Find Libary" You are looking for the "lame_enc.dll" file which in most cases is installed in the C:\Program Files\Lame\ directory. You can now change the bit rate. The higher the bitrate the more space it'll take up. Lastly, your ringtones should only last between 20 -30 seconds... anymore is a waste, who's phone rings longer than 30 seconds?
A little trick for an even louder ringtone is to change a setting in Auducity, instead of stereo, change it to mono and move the panning bar to the left.
Audacity - Make your own ringtones (freeware) LAME Encoder - Encodes your mp3's (freeware)
For the ringtones (Save Target As) to download it to your computer.
